OAKLAND – Officers exchanged gunfire with an armed man Monday afternoon in Oakland, police said. Around 4 p.m., officers were called to the 900 block of 92nd Avenue for a report of a man pointing a firearm at people in the area, according to the Oakland Police Department.

Oakland police exchanged gunfire with a suspect who had been making threats and pointing a gun at residents in an East Oakland neighborhood. The suspect fled on foot through backyards before being apprehended.

An Oakland Housing Authority police officer and a suspect were shot and injured in an exchange of gunfire early Monday morning, authorities said.

Oakland police said they were able to take the suspect into custody. He was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. In accordance with the department's policy, the officers involved in the incident were placed on paid administrative leave, Oakland police said. No officers were injured.

Oakland police said a driver crashed into a patrol car while trying to flee from police on Tuesday morning. Around 11 a.m., officers were called to the 500 block of 85th Avenue for reports of two people unresponsive inside of a car.

All lanes of Eastbound Highway 24 in Oakland are reopen on Tuesday after a reported shooting, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP confirmed a man was shot in the legs. He took himself to the hospital and is expected to survive.
