The Union government‘s move follows the Supreme Court’s firm stance on the constitutional weight of the collegium’s recommendations.

As many as 27 of the current 33 judges of the Supreme Court have declared their assets and liabilities to the Chief Justice of India, according to an update last month on the official website of the Supreme Court. Their names have been released but their asset declarations are absent.

The Supreme Court on Friday told the Centre that the "Collegium is not a search committee" and there cannot be any discretion in accepting its reiterated recommendations.

Justices Indra Prasanna Mukerji, Suresh Kumar Kait, GS Sandhawalia, and Tashi Rabstan were proposed as Chief Justices for the Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Courts,

Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, a senior puisne judge of the Delhi High Court, has been recommended as the CJ of the Madhya Pradesh High Court instead of the J&K and Ladakh High Court.
