Netflix has ordered a Little House on the Prairie series, 40-plus years after a long-running adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved books aired its last episode on NBC. The new version comes from showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine ( The Boys, The Vampire Diaries ).

Netflix has greenlit a new TV adaptation of "Little House on the Prairie," the beloved book series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Rebecca Sonnenshine ("The Boys," "Vampire Diaries," "Archive 81") will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the new series.

The fresh adaptation of the hopeful family drama will return to the American frontier and follow the adventures and adversities of the Ingalls on their family farm.

"Written during the Great Depression and first published in the 1930s, Wilder's stories were adapted into the hit TV series Little House on the Prairie, which ran for nearly a decade in the 1970s and into the '80s.

Fans of Little House on the Prairie are heading back to the beloved homestead. More than four decades after the original series concluded in 1983, Netflix has announced the greenlight of a reboot of the iconic 19th-century Western drama.
