The Richmond water treatment plant lost power early Monday and flooded due to a malfunction of the IT system, officials said.

The outage comes after a major winter storm caused widespread impacts across more than a dozen states, including hundreds of thousands of power outages across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic.

Richmond Mayor Danny Avula provided an update in the morning on Tuesday on the city's effort to restore a city water treatment plant that experienced a malfunction after a power outage, causing a boil water advisory and water service disruptions for others.
