The Washington Commanders upset the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions with a 45-31 victory and have punched their ticket to the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1991. The Commanders’ opponent and the site of the NFC Championship will come down to Sunday’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams.

Commanders safety Mike Sanristil picked off a Goff pass in the end zone to stop one last Lions drive in the first half, allowing everyone to finally catch their breath with Washington leading, 31-21. For the game, Washington had four interceptions (three of Goff and one of Williams on a trick-play attempt).

Here are some quick takeaways from the game: The Lions didn’t appear to make much of an attempt to counter the pace that the Commanders like to move at. A sound strategy would’ve been to slow this game down to keep them off the field, but a pass-happy strategy, even before the game started slipping away, allowed Jayden Daniels to stay on the field.
