Preparations are underway as an arctic blast dives into the nation's interior and southern regions and pushes a snowstorm into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast that will be followed by lethal cold.

A combination of frigid air with a low pressure system over the Gulf are behind the storm, which could bring heavy snow just south of the Interstate 20 corridor across northern Louisiana and into Mississippi and a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain near the Interstate 10 corridor from Houston to Mobile, Alabama.

An Arctic blast is expected to bring West Michigan's coldest temperatures since 2019, along with heavy lake-effect snow in some areas.

Farther north, in the mountains of northern New England, snow will fall at higher elevations, with summit accumulations of 2–4 inches likely. The rain will taper off by late evening, but don’t let your guard down. Overnight, temperatures will fall to near freezing in Boston and drop below freezing north of the city.

Showers today then snow moves in early Sunday and lasts into evening. The coldest air in years arrives Monday.

M.L.K. Day will look beautiful, with plenty of sunshine and dry conditions. However, it will be the start of our Arctic blast.

Colder air is already arriving and will continue to funnel in through the day. This will provide frigid temperatures for our mornings to start the week and also help to keep temperatures below freezing through the afternoons.
