When Kalen DeBoer was introduced as Alabama football’s head coach one year ago, he did not make specific proclamations about his first season.

For the fifth time since it opened, Alabama football has lost a linebacker, this time Justin Okoronkwo, to the transfer portal.

On Friday morning, Alabama transfer linebacker Justin Okoronkwo announced a commitment to South Carolina, joining Florida State linebacker Shawn Murphy as the second transfer linebacker to commit to the Gamecocks this offseason. A native of Munich, Germany, Okoronkwo signed with Alabama as a three-star prospect in December 2023.

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer isn't on the "hot seat" entering the 2025 college football season, though that could quickly change if things trend south in Tuscaloosa next fall. DeBoer had a fairly decent debut season at Alabama by most standards.
