Morgan Geekie scored in the second period and David Pastrnak added an empty-net goal to help Boston bounce back from loss to New Jersey

For the second-last time this season, the Boston Bruins (24-20-6) battled the Ottawa Senators (24-20-4) in a pivotal divisional matchup that may have large playoff implications later down the line.

Morgan Geekie scored the game-winning goal and Joonas Korpisalo recorded a 29-save shutout as the Boston Bruins beat the visiting Ottawa Senators 2-0 on Thursday night.

Joonas Korpisalo readily admitted that he wasn’t at his best all day on Monday. But given the opportunity to preserve a win for the Bruins against the San Jose Sharks, the netminder showed up at the right time.

It’s not like the Ottawa Senators stunk up the TD Garden on Thursday. It wasn’t like the game two days before when the Senators absorbed an embarrassing 5-0 road spanking against the New York Rangers.

In the first few months of the National Hockey League season, the Boston Bruins were getting inconsistent goaltending from their newly signed netminder Jeremy Swayman, and freshly acquired backup Joonas Korpisalo,

Korpisalo was busy in the second period, facing 14 shots and allowing two goals. Boston scored four unanswered goals in the third period to earn the victory. Korpisalo has posted a record of 8-4-2 with a 2.87 GAA and an .892 save percentage in 15 appearances this season.

Korpisalo will defend the home crease against San Jose on Monday, Kevin Paul Dupont of The Boston Globe reports. Korpisalo hasn't seen much playing time recently since Jeremy Swayman has emerged as Boston's clear No.

BOSTON — Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves against his former team, David Pastrnak set up Morgan Geekie’s goal and added an empty-netter and the Boston Bruins beat the Ottawa Senators 2-0 on Thursday night.
