Newark Archbishop Joseph Tobin announced the hiring New York-based law firm to review the circumstances surrounding the appointment of Monsignor Joseph Reilly as Seton Hall’s president last year.

The inquiry follows POLITICO reporting that the Catholic school's new president was named, but not accused, in a sexual abuse investigation in 2019.

The head of New Jersey’s largest Catholic diocese has retained a law firm to review a years-old investigation at Seton Hall University that recently led to controversy over the hiring of the school’s new president.

Seton Hall officials have said little amid allegations that President Joseph Reilly ignored sexual abuse. Now the university is disputing reports that he violated Title IX.
