Louisville's flood protection infrastructure keeps the Ohio River at bay, and has already pumped billions of gallons of stormwater out of the city.

Homeowners along the Ohio River in Vanderburgh County are monitoring water levels. Several roads are closed, and some homeowners can only get to their houses by boat. “Normally we don’t get a flood like this in the winter.

The Ohio River is finally receding, and MSD is now looking ahead to phasing out its flood pumps. Out of 16 flood pump stations, 12 stations went into service, and nine actively pumped during this flood event.

Drivers should watch for barricades blocking road access and not drive around them. Also, avoid driving through standing water over roadways and find alternate routes.

The Ohio River is expected to keep rising until Wednesday when it is predicted to crest at 55.4 feet in Cincinnati.
