Last week the Las Vegas Raiders tabbed Super Bowl-winning head coach Pete Carroll as its next head coach. After a 4-13 finish in 2024, turning to the winningest coach in Seattle Seahawks history feels like a solid direction for a franchise in transition.

The Las Vegas Raiders are hiring Pete Carroll to be the team’s head coach, according to reports. ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero first reported the news. CNN has reached out to the Raiders for comment.

Which means the Super Bowl champion Carroll is now the oldest head coach in the league by far. The San Francisco native will turn 74 in September when the 2025 NFL season begins. The next-oldest coach, Andy Reid, will turn 67 in March — assuming he returns to the Chiefs for another year.
