A federal program that provides Nebraska students' lunches with dairy, meat and produce from Nebraska farms will cease by the end of the year, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has terminated both an expansion of the Local Food For Schools program and the Local Food Purchase Assistance program, both of which provided aid for schools and food banks making purchases.

The USDA's funding cut will also impact child care centers throughout the state who planned to join the program thanks to an expansion plan approved last year.
