132 years after Lake Superior shipwreck that left single survivor, vessel found
The only survivor was Wheelsman Harry W. Stewart of Algonac, Michigan. According to a report in the Chicago Tribune on Sept. 3, 1892, when Stewart reached shore, he walked 12 miles to the nearest life-saving station. Two bodies were found, one being Captain Minch, identified by his watch.
After a harrowing night at sea for the owner's family and crew members packed into a lifeboat, there was only one survivor.
