The tornado carved a 30-mile path through northern Illinois, with winds of up to 200 mph at times leaving a trail of destruction from near Ashton and Franklin Grove to just south of Belvidere.

Several Illinois counties are under a tornado watch as a storm moves northward through the state.

In Iroquois County, crews on the ground said an apparent tornado blew apart barns and brought down power lines.
