The map of flu activity across the United States continues to darken, both figuratively and literally, as case numbers spike upward in most states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The state's first pediatric flu death this season is one of 16 that have been reported nationwide. Respiratory virus activity is high in Wisconsin, especially in the southern and northeastern parts of the state, with recent increases in emergency room visits for flu, COVID-19 and RSV, the state Department of Health Services said.
