Prince Charles and Princess Diana headed on what should have been a romantic honeymoon aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia following their July 1981 wedding. But, as the world would later learn, the trip was anything but the loved-up vacation either of them had planned.

A former royal butler has revealed that the late Princess Diana’s attempts at keeping the romance alive with ex-husband Charles were ignored, insisting that the monarch "didn't have a romantic bone in his body". But he said the King had "made up for it" in his marriage to Queen Camilla.

Prince Charles's card must have been unexpected for the princess, given Charles wasn't prone to romantic gestures. Her former butler, Paul Burrell, told Marie Claire that Diana would "send romantic cards to Prince Charles" but the gestures weren't reciprocated.

Princess Diana "destroyed" the art supplies Prince Charles packed for the couple's 12-day honeymoon aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia in 1981, according to royal biographer Penny Junor.
