The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities has sent a letter to gas companies directing them to lower gas bills for March and April by 5%.

The DPU is telling all six companies to submit proposals by Monday detailing how they will implement the reductions.

In the letter, which was issued to Berkshire Gas, Eversource, Liberty, National Grid and Unitil, the DPU states the reduction will apply to bills in March and April, which is when the winter heating season officially ends.
