Chase Briscoe’s debut with Joe Gibbs Racing started with fireworks, but NASCAR’s crushing penalty put his season in jeopardy. With crew chief James Small suspended and a deep points deficit, Briscoe’s playoff hopes are fading fast.

Chase Briscoe‘s appeal of the massive penalty coming out of the Daytona 500 will be heard by the National Motorsports Appeals Panel Wednesday, March 5, per Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.

Chase Briscoe enters the second race of the NASCAR season with a new team and -67 points; the easiest way out of this hole is to just win.

After a violation with the spoiler on Briscoe’s Daytona 500 car, NASCAR docked Briscoe 100 points and 10 playoff points, penalized Joe Gibbs Racing 100 team owner points and 10 playoff points, fined the team $100,000 and suspended crew chief James Small four races.

In his first race with Joe Gibbs Racing, Chase Briscoe found himself with a massive 100-point penalty after his car was torn down. Briscoe had his car taken to the NASCAR Research and Development Center and there were issues with the spoiler.

Briscoe now starts the season in a massive hole, after his team was penalized for allegedly modifying a spec spoiler component.

Chase Briscoe, who won the pole and finished fourth in the Daytona 500, now faces a steep climb to make the playoffs following his penalty.
