Bobby Allison, founding member of NASCAR’s “Alabama Gang,” the 1983 champion and winner of 85 races, died Nov. 9. He was 86 years old.

Bobby Allison, founder of racing’s "Alabama Gang" and a NASCAR Hall of Famer, died Saturday at the age of 86. His family released a statement to NASCAR saying that he died at home in Mooresville, North Carolina. A cause of death wasn’t given, but Allison had been in declining health for years.

Allison died on Saturday at age 86, NASCAR announced. Despite his association with Alabama, Allison was not a native of the state. Instead, he was a Floridian drawn to Alabama because of its vibrant racing scene.
