I bought family ticket for Science and individual tickets for the climbing experience. The virtual Reality is paid for by using a 'top up' system as you can preload your wrist band for this. We were Explorium again on Saturday last and in Virtual reality. The driving experiences were not good, system crashed several times. The roller coaster was good, according to the kids and hover experience also good. However, there were many issues with the technology which was frustrating for both public and employees. Climbing activity and high slide were a big hit. Had 10 and 12 year olds with me. I would bring a picnic with you. It's very expensive if you also buy food, no real places to eat indoors. It was actually good to be outside in the fresh air with the kids running around after the virtual Reality piece as the technology makes the space very warm.

At a guess and this is only that and only my opinion, they know that there isn't a whole lot of options for family days out and a Sports and Science Musium sounds pretty good right and curiosity gets to us all so even at exorbitant prices people will pay them to see what's on offer. This means the company maximises it's revenue in the first 12 months. Putting together a Musium like this plus insurance costs is going to be a serious investment so the quicker the return the better. Ancillary offerings such as food and parking are another nice little earner and people are there right, they've spent a fortune getting in, they are not going to leave early because they don't want to pay for parking and let's face it kids are always starving. This is a short term game though, once demand drops off as the newness wears off and there are less and less first time visitors to capture then they will need to entice repeat customers back and that's when prices will fall. Until then with 10s of thousands of visitors every week there is no incentive to reduce price or offer freebies. These are business people after all. Give it a year and I bet the parking will be free and you'll be able to get a family ticket for half the price a family costs now on a discount site. Alternatively give in to curiosity now and just splash the cash!
