The junior section is for the younger kids. It wouldn’t be good for an 8 year old on its own. I brought my 7 and 9 year old into it after we’d done the main bit. They liked it but definitely the …

The entry price covers the science area only. Everything else is extra - climbing, caving, VR,beat the goalie etc. these are all activities which you can do in isolation also if trying to find something to do on a rainy day. Not sure where picnic idea coming from as there is no place to have a picnic unless person meant in the car park..bring water and some snacks you can eat walking around but there are no places to eat other than restaurants
Why are the entry fees so high? Why do you charge for parking when you charge so much for the entry fee?

At a guess and this is only that and only my opinion, they know that there isn't a whole lot of options for family days out and a Sports and Science Musium sounds pretty good right and curiosity gets to us all so even at exorbitant prices people will pay them to see what's on offer. This means the company maximises it's revenue in the first 12 months. Putting together a Musium like this plus insurance costs is going to be a serious investment so the quicker the return the better. Ancillary offerings such as food and parking are another nice little earner and people are there right, they've spent a fortune getting in, they are not going to leave early because they don't want to pay for parking and let's face it kids are always starving. This is a short term game though, once demand drops off as the newness wears off and there are less and less first time visitors to capture then they will need to entice repeat customers back and that's when prices will fall. Until then with 10s of thousands of visitors every week there is no incentive to reduce price or offer freebies. These are business people after all. Give it a year and I bet the parking will be free and you'll be able to get a family ticket for half the price a family costs now on a discount site. Alternatively give in to curiosity now and just splash the cash!
